Man sitting on a roof, 2nd Danish Pamir Expedition
A member of the 2nd Danish Pamir Expedition siiting on the roof of the winter station in the town Khorok. Just like several leaders of the Danish expeditions to the Arctic had done before him, Olufsen arranged for his travelling team of researchers to spend the winter in fixed winter quarters. The expedition members lived for six months in the house provided by the Emir of Bukhara, who as a result of the English-Russian treaty of 1895 had gained the villages on the right side of the Pandsh river for his future control.
