Fermented mare’s milk, airak, is sprinkled on animals and humans as an offering of good luck and the celebration of beginnings such as the first separation of the mares from their foals, the ceremony known as sachuli. The bowl part at one end and the nine incisions at the other are filled with airak and repeatedly showered over the animals.
