Mannequin dressed in woman's costume, Mongolia
The lady wears a sleeveless, long waistcoat in gold brocade over a deep blue silk caftan with elongated sleeves of light green silk and large cuffs. Her elaborate silver and coral headdress is crowned by a hat of black velvet, furnished at the top with a big knot button of wadded scarlet silk. From the back, six tie-shaped ornaments flow down the woman’s back. The hat is kept in place with a chin-string. The jewellery tells us that she is of Khalkh Darkhan Beile, a group of 10.000 Khalkh Mongols who had settled in Sunit with their leader, the living Buddha Dilowa Gegen, after their refuge from Khalkh Mongolia. This mannequin is part of a total of nine, dressed in women’s costumes from top to toe and fully equipped with silver headdresses and other jewellery.
