Lodai holds out some objects, 1938
Lodai holds out some objects from the newly obtained “dzod-cult-tent” (jod-yin): “Yesterday a ”dzodger“, i.e. a small white tent, was pitched in the yard and is currently being furnished with a lot of odd contents […] dzod is a cult which has developed within Lamaism and which is practised in many places in Mongolia […] Offerings of various foodstuffs are placed in small bowls outside the tent, and over them the lama says prayers […] he sits in front of the tent on a painted cushion made of human skin. Now the scene with the offerings has been photographed with Lodai disguised as a lama. The filming was done with magnesium flash shortly after sunset.” The tent is catalogued as no. 10 (Grønbech diary 1 October 1938). Photo: Kaare Grønbech, 1938.
