No. 10 (Inventory no. 14417). Long bronze sword with gold ornaments. Lower part of the blade is missing. The grip has flanged edges with gold foil preserved on the sides and on the upward- pointing, horned shoulders. Three nails with gold foil are preserved in the grip and two nails below the shoulders at the transition to the blade. The (now lost) covering of the grip is indicated by impressions in the bronze and terminates below the shoulders in an oval opening above the two nails. The oval ivory pommel has a markedly swollen upper side and a concave underside with a grooved square hole where the (not preserved) tang of the handle joined the pommel. Two nails in the pommel were used to fix the tang. The pommel is covered with thin gold strips (L 8.0-5.0 mm, W 0.5 mm, Th 0.2-0.15 mm) fixed in parallel rows mutually displaced to the pommel by pins on the back of the ivory. After hammering a pattern with connected spirals was chased into the gold surface. A similar pattern is seen on one of the flanges. L (preserved) 30.8 cm. (restored) 43.3 cm. Max.
