Beskrivelse
Cypriote limestone figurine portraying a man with a large fish tail, interpreted as a sea demon, merman, or sea-man. He is holding a lyre in his left hand and a plectrum in his right hand. A headband is marked by red paint across his forehead, beneath the hair. He has a beard, and is waering a chiton, with short sleaves, which is painted red. The tail is decorated with red spots, perhaps indicating the scales, and it has a dorsal fin as well as two pectoral fins.
It was found in the Archaic Layers in connection with the grand Archaic stairs in the Athana Lindia sanctuary on Rhodes, and was most likely dedicated as a votive offering to the goddess.
