Beskrivelse
Greek terracotta figurine portraying a woman carrying a basket on her head - a type known as a Kanephoros (lit. "Basket bearer"). It was the role of the Kanephoros to lead the religious processions at festivals, while carrying the sacred objects in her basket. She is dressed in a voluminous full-length mantle, characteristic for the role, which was considered a great honour, and was to be given to an "ideal maiden".
The figurine is 13 cm high. It was found in the Small Deposit in the Athana Lindia sanctuary and was dedicated as a votive offering for the goddess. 3D Model based on photogrammetry. The background shows a reconstruction of the Archaic Athana Lindia sanctuary in Lindos on Rhodes. The terracotta figurine is published in: C. Blinkenberg 1931. Lindos: Fouilles de l’Acropole 1902-1914 I, Les Petits Objects. Berlin: Walter de Gruyter & Co. P. 708 no. 3016.
