The small statue depicts Athena as Parthenos, which means that it imitates the large chryselephantine statue of Athena that stood in the Parthenon on the Acropolis in Athens in the 5th cent. BCE. She wears the aegis, an animal skin or a shield with the head of Medusa on the chest, and a curled-up snake lies at her side. It is one of the very few depictions of Athena found in the sanctuary in Lindos. The statue was probably dedicated as votive offering for the goddess. The marble statue is 33 cm high.
